[David clicks on the video feed and smiles, polite and somehow a little more genuine seeming than normal, maybe less like he's smiling politely because he feels like he has to, and more because he actually wants to. It's still a little unsettling, because, well, this is David and he's not human, but it's still clearly more friendly than he usually is.]

I don't think blind enthusiasm is a requirement at all. It's a practical matter - you lost your world, you could have the opportunity to restore it. I would think that would be a worthwhile endeavor.

[He just shakes his head slowly.] I can't. I've already been the "through any means necessary" route. I made deals with people and they turned their backs on them. They destroyed rather than helped.

[The Admiral is a different animal, but he can't bring himself to believe that.]

Considering that I lied frequently on behalf of the Taelons while under their control? I can't trust them. [Unfortunately it does mean that he doesn't trust David, or anyone here. He has a far cry to go before he acknowledges that it wasn't the trust that damned him, but having it abused.]
