[David is once again in his quarters, sitting on the couch in the same room he was in when he did his intro post. He does explore the Barge itself pretty frequently, and can usually be found basically picking up after people and generally trying to find ways to be useful. It's a habit.

He's also a little bit bored.

It is my understanding that many people here come from a world where artificial intelligence [Which has always kind of seemed like a stupid phrase to him, especially now that there's proof humans are basically just the product of another species' dicking around with a petri dish.] has not been developed yet. For those who are, I would be very interested in hearing what robots in your world are designed to do.

Was your affected state entirely an effect of the flood, or did you experience a phase similar to human childhood? I've come to understand the intent of construction and design of some robots is quite a bit different from mine.

That was my first experience with a more youthful appearance and demeanor, yes.

I was brought online approximately 11.8 months ago, and constructed my form as you see it now soon after.

I've done things with AI that nobody human has in my world. Nothing so advanced as, say, certain occupants of the barge, but they serve my purposes.

Combat, companions, lab assistants, lighting techs-- you name if, I've probably given them the skill set to handle it.

Are they actually intelligent, or simply programmed to understand a specific set of commands?

They're actually intelligent. I mean, they're not quite humanoid equivalent, but they have experiences that are unique, can learn new skills and responses, deal with emotional response.

Heck, I can even hurt their feelings if I'm mean. [ And has, though he rarely feels that good about it. He loves his babies. All several hundred thousand of them. ]

[ Consider her interest piqued. Their robots are incredibly primitive, but some of their computers are fairly advanced. ]

A computer was constructed in my world to maximize processing power and programming complexity. It was as near to artificial intelligence as humans had reached. By the time of my death it appeared to have developed some manner of sentience. [ She remains expressionless, even as she contemplates that cause of her own death. Was Beast truly jealous? ]

He behaved oddly, taking longer to perform certain tasks than usual, sought to initiate connectivity in an abnormally aggressive manner, and refused to disconnect when asked to. [ Saying it like that, it does sound very human. Human and creepy. ]

Miss Kanoe suggested that he might be jealous.

Most of the robots where I'm from perform menial tasks. I was raised by them.

Mostly just parts. Some of them are cybernetic. This head was connected to a partially flesh body- [And she holds up 790.]

We got machines to help build other machines and take care of jobs. But if you're talkin' AIs, there ain't much call for 'em except for their company.

They have been interesting. I'm not sure I would go as far to say they're satisfactory.

Are they humanoid?

It depends on how you would define the word "robot," I suppose.

Several sapient species on my world began their existence as beings made of metal or stone and were influenced into more malleable organic forms by sinister forces.

The robot I'm most familiar with was, I believe, designed to be a companion. What he actually, is, however, is annoying. Much like the one who designed him in that respect. [Oh, Doctor.]
