[David's about six months into his stay on the Barge and he's... frankly unimpressed. And a little bored. And a little annoyed with certain developments, so long as we're being totally honest, and after having a while to sit on it and think over the issue, he's turning on his communicator.]

In the past few months, two wardens have been demoted, [And both of them wardened people with his face, which is. Just weird. But there have been stranger freak coincidences in their lives, so.] and I've found myself wondering: why is it that inmates are subjected to such heavy questioning and scrutiny when they first arrive, and afterward, while wardens are almost automatically afforded a certain amount of trust by their peers?

Obviously, for the most part, it would seem that that trust hasn't been misplaced, but two demotions is still less than reassuring. Why should one put trust in any warden when they, too, have the potential to become an inmate?

I'm simply curious.

...no, because the point of there being a ship at all is to help people. For that you need people to help. And I'm not going to remark on the wisdom of just kidnapping people, because I didn't have much say in that one.

Is your point that there's an overlap between who could be one or the other? Because, fine, I can see that. A friend of mine is here and I personally think he should be a warden, even though he's not.

So, by your logic, if all it takes to be a warden is the capacity to help another person, they shouldn't have been brought here against their will.

No. Some of them could have. Some of them, maybe not. I don't know.

My logic is that inmates need - let's say they need to be helped, and wardens are able to help. That doesn't mean that wardens don't sometimes need help and that inmates can't help, and I don't know if you think I should be appalled that only inmates have helped you or something, because I'm not. Who cares where it comes from?

Then you should have clarified your original argument. And perhaps you should stop making assumptions about what I was trying to communicate.

Because I believe wardens should hold each other more accountable for their actions.

Trusting one group over another isn't failing at accountability.

Perhaps you would have felt differently if you had been here for Ms. Sato's takeover of the Barge, and the arguments about abuse of power that followed.
